Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about working with A&J Vineyard Supply—from custom project quotes to shipping logistics and product specifics.

Vineyard Projects & Quotes

We’re always happy to provide quotes — whether it’s one item or a full vineyard redevelopment. Just give us a call or fill out our Request a Quote form and we’ll take it from there.

For larger volumes, complex projects or just to get advice and talk through options (humans still answer the phone here!), we recommend reaching out to our team and building a quote together.

Our online store is built for speed and convenience. It’s the perfect place for quick restocks, seasonal staples and simple set-ups.

The more you have, the faster we can turn it around — but don’t worry if you’re not sure where to start. Vine spacing, row spacing, and total acreage help us answer the “how much do I need” question. From there, we’ll talk through the type of system you’re looking for: your preferences, manual vs. mechanical harvesting, and what you need the system to accomplish.
Whether you’ve already spec’d everything out and just need price and availability, or you need us to walk you through every step — we meet you where you’re at.

Yes — most of our commercial growers and vineyard managers set up accounts so they don’t have to deal with payment at the time of every pick-up or delivery. We generally offer net 15 terms with approved credit.
A full credit application packet is available on our Resources Page.

Yes — bulk seasonal orders are exactly what we’re built for. Pruning and tying, bird netting, harvest supplies, erosion control — we handle the volume and make sure nothing gets missed.
Seasonal items have tight availability windows, so the earlier you reach out, the better. Send us your specs and timeline and we’ll get a quote back fast.
For most vineyard operations, yes. We carry trellis systems, drip irrigation, seasonal supplies, fencing, pruning and tying supplies, and vineyard hardware and tools. If it’s something we don’t stock or can’t order, we’ll tell you straight and point you in the right direction.
Not sure if we have what you need? Just ask — we’re easy to reach.

Absolutely — we’ve been working with management companies for over 20 years and we’re built for exactly this kind of complexity. We can handle separate quotes, POs, and invoicing by ranch or client, coordinate deliveries across multiple drop points, and keep everything organized so your accounting team stays happy and your crews stay on schedule.
One point of contact on our end handles it all — so you’re not re-explaining your operation every time you call.

Online Shopping

Yes — we’ve expanded our online store so even midnight shoppers can get what they need. That said, some items are long, heavy, or awkward enough that standard shipping rates would be… let’s say unreasonable. Those items are marked “Add to Quote” instead of “Add to Cart.”
Once they’re in your cart, one of our team members will calculate freight, price the items, and send you a note when everything’s ready for checkout. Easy.

Just give us a call — we can answer any product question and even walk you through the shopping or quote-building process in real-time.
If it’s after hours, use the general inquiry form on our Contact page, select “Product Question” from the subject drop-down, and we’ll get back to you first thing the next business morning.

As long as the carrier services your address — yes! Just select Residential Delivery at checkout to ensure proper routing. If your order requires special handling or equipment for unloading, we’ll give you a heads-up ahead of time so there are no surprises.

Yes. If you’re using “Add to Quote,” we’ll incorporate volume pricing into your order where applicable — no need to ask.
If you’re checking out directly but need case or pallet quantities, give us a call and we’ll put together a custom quote with volume pricing built in.

Most quotes come back within one business day. And if anything needs clarification or is going to take longer, we’ll reach out before you have to ask — clear, proactive communication is something we take seriously on every order.
No guessing, no radio silence.

Freight on vineyard supplies is real — posts, wire, and bulk materials are heavy and the carriers charge accordingly. That said, consolidating your order into a single shipment and making sure your quantities are not more or less that you actually need is usually the best way to bring the per-unit cost down. We’re always happy to help you think through timing and double check the math to make that work.
If you have flexibility on delivery windows, that can help too. Reach out and we’ll look at the options together.

Product Specific Questions

All standard coils are 100 lbs — the footage depends on the gauge:

10 ga — 2,060 ft/coil
11 ga — 2,560 ft/coil
12 ga — 3,370 ft/coil
12.5 ga — 4,000 ft/coil
13 ga — 4,470 ft/coil
14 ga — 5,860 ft/coil

Not sure which gauge you need? We can help you spec it out — just send us your trellis layout and we’ll point you in the right direction.

The spade’s job is to keep the post from twisting in the row — but not all sides of the t-post are the same. The full face of the spade should be facing the same direction as the row,  looking at the post in front of it.  Making sure all spades are facing this exact same way ensures your crossarms install correctly and stay square to the row.
Getting it wrong isn’t just a cosmetic issue. If the spades face the wrong direction, the posts twist, crossarms won’t sit right, and the whole system looks off. Taking posts out and re-driving them is time-consuming and costly — and leaving them wrong means living with a trellis that never quite works the way it should.
Check the orientation before the first post goes in. It takes two seconds and saves a lot of headaches.

Bottom line— it saves a ton of time — and the numbers back it up. The Titan Crossarm In-Line Stake installs 30x faster than a traditional crossarm setup. The crossarm slides through a built-in slot on the stake, so there’s no mounting hardware to carry, lose, or tighten. Your crew drives the stake, slides the arm in to lock, and moves on.
For large installs, that adds up fast. Fewer steps per post means more rows per day — without cutting corners on the system..

Absolutely — we can work with you to make sure every part of your system meets your certification requirements. We’re always adding to our sustainable product lineup, and some of our newest options include Hope compostable tie tape and Eco Wood Clips for canopy management.
Not sure if a specific product qualifies? Just ask — we’ll help you sort it out.

You’ll need a Gripple Release Key — or in a pinch, a small Allen key, nail, or sturdy wire.
Here’s how:

Find the release hole — the small narrow hole directly above the main wire channel.
Insert your tool — push it into the release hole to move the internal locking roller away from the wire.
Push the wire forward first — this takes tension off the mechanism and makes release much easier.
Pull the wire back — while holding the tool in place, pull the wire out in the opposite direction it was inserted.

If it’s not releasing cleanly, make sure you’re pushing the wire forward before pulling back — that’s the step most people skip.

Highly recommended — especially for anything beyond a small repair. A wire payout spinner (sometimes called a “spinning jenny”) keeps the wire from twisting and tangling as it unspools, lets one person do the job efficiently, and gives you controlled payout with less risk of the wire getting away from you.
For large-scale installs, long spans, or if you’re doing this more than once, it’s worth having. We can help you find the right model for your coil size and project scope.

Shipping & Logistics

Yes — we have trucks leaving our yard daily for out-of-state deliveries. Over 20 years of building carrier relationships means we have an extensive network to work with: flatbed, curtain van, LTL, small packages. Whatever your order looks like, we’ll find a solution that gets it to you.

Yes — you’re exactly the kind of operation we’re set up for. We handle delivery timing and drop-point coordination as part of every order, so you’re not playing traffic controller between us and your crews.
Tell us your ranches and point people, your timelines, and any site-specific requirements, and we’ll build it into the order from the start. One point of contact, no last-minute scrambles

Of course — will-call is always an option. Just give us a heads-up that you’re on the way and we’ll have everything staged and ready for quick loading.
If you’re sending a third-party carrier, share the driver’s contact info and we’ll coordinate directly with them so you don’t have to be the middle man.

For long, heavy, or palletized items — yes, in most cases you will. As part of the order process, we’ll let you know what equipment you’ll need and coordinate timing to make sure everything goes smoothly when the truck arrives.
No surprises on delivery day.

Yes — we ship to both. International orders involve customs clearance, so we recommend working with a licensed customs broker on your end. If you have one, we’re happy to coordinate directly with them to make sure the paperwork and compliance side of things goes smoothly.
Not sure where to start? Give us a call and we’ll talk through the process.

Misc

Absolutely. Our entire team is bilingual, and we treat everyone with the same care and respect. Send them our way — we’ll make sure they feel comfortable and get exactly what they need.

Yes — while vineyard operations are our core, we work with a wide range of customers: growers and vineyard managers of all scales, wineries with in-house vineyard maintenance, fencing and installation contractors, labor contractors, and producers of other crops like berries and hops. Landscapers find us useful too.
If you’re not sure whether we’re a fit, just reach out — chances are we can help.

Definitely — just reach out with the details and your possible timeline and we’ll get you numbers to work with. Keep in mind that pricing can shift over time, so we can’t guarantee the figures will hold, but it gives you a solid starting point. When you’re ready to confirm, we’ll re-quote and lock it in.
